Item Description
These famous cereal give-away buttons were created by the master of premiums for kids, designer Sam Gold. Millions of these 13/16" litho buttons went into post-war cereal boxes issued as five sub-sets of 18 (each sub-set including Superman) initially over a two year period 1945-1946 so that in the end 86 different buttons comprised a set. Some characters of note include - Blondie and Dagwood, Dick Tracy, Felix the Cat, Flash Gordon, Henry, Moon Mullins, Popeye and Olive Oyl, Little Orphan Annie, Superman, The Phantom and others. Offered here are two newspaper proofs (measuring approx. 6x10.5" and 8.5x10.25") that offer total of five different newspaper ads; one proof is dated 1946 while the other is dated 1947. Each ad features three different pins for total of 15; some highlights include - Chester Gump, Dick Tracy Jr., Pat Patton, Andy Gump, Orphan Annie and Sandy. Smaller has had bottom trimmed and shows moderate handling wear w/archival tape repairs/reinforcements on back along fold lines. VG. Larger has slight margin trim but is o/w VF. Also comes w/glossy stiff paper (partial) stat sheet used in paste ups for mechanicals to print ads such as those in this lot (hence the fact that one is cut from the sheet). Tracy Jr., Andy Gump and Don Winslow are of note. Stat shows obvious wear aside from cut image and is VG. All are only examples known to us. Rare, must-have ephemera for Pep collectors. From the archives of premium creators Sam & Gordon Gold and comes with LOA.
