Item Description
These famous cereal give-away buttons were created by the master of premiums for kids, designer Sam Gold. Millions of these 13/16" litho buttons went into post-war cereal boxes issued as five sub-sets of 18 (each sub-set including Superman) initially over a two year period 1945-1946 so that in the end 86 different buttons comprised a set. Some characters of note include - Blondie and Dagwood, Dick Tracy, Felix the Cat, Flash Gordon, Henry, Moon Mullins, Popeye and Olive Oyl, Little Orphan Annie, Superman, The Phantom and others. Offered here is 6-5/8x10.75" sheet of vellum w/pencil concept original art for comic book ad advertising this classic premium pins. Art shows seven example pins, including - Moon Mullins, Smitty, Kayo, Dick Tracy, Lillums, Orphan Annie and one other that is non-distinct. Bottom features "Superman" name comic book logo as ad mentions Superman radio show. Heavy vertical crease right of center, but o/w VF. A variety of these ads were made during the years of production and art comes w/two clipped 1946 comic book ads w/similar concepts. Historic piece showing the promotional process of one of the all-time greatest premiums, of which any original art is rare and sought after.
