Item Description
Desirable blue background. 7/8x1-1/8". 1840. Inscription above design "O.K." is the first use of OK, an abbreviation for Van Buren's nickname Old Kinderhook. Waving American flag above an iron bound safe w/"Specie" below indicating Van Buren's continued support for hard money policies of the Jackson Administration, that lead in part to the panic of 1837. A 1/8x.75" flake of missing background paint at lower right that just affects the floral element of design and missing original horizontal 'T' pin. Fine. Only the second we've seen in our 54 years and the only w/this distinct blue background.
