Item Description
8.5x11" handwritten letter on "'Buffalo Bill' And The 101 Ranch Shows" illustrated letterhead is dated Sept. 22, 1916 and has been written/signed by Wild West legend "Buffalo Bill" Cody (1846-1917). Letter apologizes for the delay in writing and comments "I Can't Stand Like I Used To" and notes upcoming end of traveling show season. Of note, this letter was written less than four months prior to Cody's death on Jan. 10, 1917 at age 70. Cody's letter also mentions "Business Only Fails," offering sad insight into this Western legend's last few months, which saw his considerable fortune dwindle to less than $100,000. Letter has been signed "Uncle Will" which has slight smudge but remains legible. Letter has been folded as mailed and top margin has some glue staining as once mounted in scrapbook. Some lt. margin wear along fold lines but Fine/VF overall. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
