Item Description
James Braddock (1905-1974) was an American boxer who was the world heavyweight champion from 1935 to 1937. Nicknamed Cinderella Man for his 1935 comeback fight against heavyweight champion Max Baer. The 2005 film Cinderella Man was titled after Braddock's nickname and inspired by his life story. Offered here is 19.75x19.75" gameboard for 1935 James J. Braddock Knockout boxing game gameboard. Center features portrait of Braddock in pugilistic pose and bears his facsimile signature as part of the design. Braddock has also signed gameboard in black ink, inscribing "To Wilhelmina" and adding "2/12/36" date. This is a bit lt. but still totally legible. Gameboard shows moderate aging/wear to exterior w/corner foxing and dust soiling. Interior shows some aging along center fold and scattered dust soiling and wear. Gameboard is Fine overall while inscription/signature displays VF. Nice piece signed during Braddock's tenure as heavyweight champion. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
