Item Description
5x8x2-1/8" tall wooden box w/hinged lid featuring embossed Yellow Kid image that has had applied thin paper yellow shirt as opposed to most Yellow Kid cigar boxes which featured paper labels. Austin, Nichols & Co. of New York, c. 1896. Box originally contained 50 cigars as noted by paper tax label. Left and front side panels have illustrated Yellow Kid label/seals which have been broken/opened. All edges feature thin paper band w/printed Yellow Kid portraits. Underside of lid features great full color illustrated label that matches embossed lid image. Additional "Yellow Kid Sez" label on interior of box. Underside of box has stamped "Factory No 1116, 3d Dist. N.Y. 50" text. Scattered aging and wear, more moderate to exterior labels. Fine overall. Scarce.
