Item Description
7/8" illustration and text without a dot screen on photographic paper under celluloid and with the back stamp of the Chicago based maker Pin-Lock plus their notice "Pat'd May 31 ' 98". Shown with unruly hair, big ears and missing teeth is a young boy whose origin has been traced back to an advertisement in 1894 for a Broadway play titled "The New Boy." Product advertisers quickly picked up on the image with one of the first being for Atmore's Mincemeat dating from 1895. There are several other Alfred ancestor buttons of the 1898-1902 era ( all rare) and this is our first of this design. It reads " If You Love Me / Smile / Ross Photos Are Best / Tipton Mo.". Tiny age on cello around metal back. Front is glossy, clean and Exc. One known to us.
