Item Description
Original glossy 7.25xc9-3/8" news service photo shows Walt Disney seated atop one of the rail cars for his Carolwood Pacific Railroad (CPRR), miniature railroad in the backyard of Disney's Los Angeles, CA home. Disney's lifelong fascination w/trains and his interest in miniature models led to the creation of the CPRR, which was built by the Walt Disney Studios' machine shop. It made its first test run in late 1949 and became operational in 1950, attracting visitors to Disney's home; where he would invite them to ride and occasionally drive his miniature train. In 1953, after an accident occurred in which a guest was injured, the CPRR was closed to the public. Photo dates to the early 1950s. Photo has promotional caption sheet taped on back and shows some lt. handling wear w/crease at upper left corner. VF overall.
