Item Description
7/8" with rarely seen back paper from a Washington, D.C. firm named as "A. Kahn, Inc./Jewelers..." Shown in his Washington Senators uniform. By the year this button was issued, 1924, Johnson was in his 17th season during which Washington won the pennant and proceeded to defeat John McGraw's New York Giants in 7 games. Johnson, nicknamed "The Big Train", was the most dominant Major League Baseball pitcher of the 1910s and well into the 1920s, finishing his career with a final record of 417-279, an ERA of 2.17 and 3,509 strikeouts to go along with a MLB record 110 career shutouts and ultimately gain election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936.  Collet is slightly loose a result of improperly tucked cello. during manufacturing. This has resulted in a slightly uneven front surface most notably at 1 o'clock where a thin ridge extends diagonally towards center affecting portrait in reflected light. Additionally, we note minor cello. flaking between 11 and 1 o'clock that is visible only on reverse. Front remains glossy and still displays nicely. Fine.
