Item Description
3-3/8"x5-3/8" vintage matte postcard depicting an inset of the 1920's Cuban Manati club manager alongside a large portrait photo of star Cuban pitcher named Yoyo Diaz with a "necklace" containing nine additional Cuban players. Also pictured are the entrance to the Manati baseball stadium along with a small player portrait and a pair of the club's top two pitchers, Yoyo Diaz and Luis Morena. This Manati baseball team was a Sugar Mill club, famous for their baseball success in Cuba taking on all comers. It is our belief that this postcard, along with its accompanying example (see next item), were homemade by either the team or a zealous fan of the club. Photographer's credit in lower left-hand corner on front reads "Acido Urico". Postcard exhibits lt., even corner wear long with lt. foxing on back. AZO stamp box dates this postcard to 1924-49, which is consistent with the subject matter pictured. Undivided postcard back remains blank and unused. Fine. From the Richard Merkin Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
