Item Description
Full 2-5/8x6.75" ticket for Sept. 22, 1927 at Soldier's Field in Chicago, IL which was a rematch between World Heavyweight Champion Gene Tunney and Jack Dempsey. "The Long Count Fight" saw Dempsey knock down Tunney in the seventh, but due to the new rule in place of having to move to a neutral corner, the count on Tunney didn't start until close to eight seconds after Dempsey moved, which some believe gave Tunney the opportunity to rest by taking advantage of a nine count before getting up. Tunney went on to win the fight which was subsequently Jack Dempsey's last fight. Dempsey (1895-1983) boldly signed ticket in blue ink w/steel-tipped fountain pen. Ticket notes $10 ticket price and bears photo portraits of both fighters on back. Some penciling at top/bottom right corners. Ticket has evenly aged and has some corner tip foxing. Fine/VF. Historic and important boxing artifact. Rare as a full ticket and even rarer as signed. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
