Item Description
First example Hake's has offered. 2.5" tall. Attached to metal stick pin is die-cut cello waving pennant. Front notes their pennant win, back advertises "The Queen Of Confections." Hermes issued the coveted set of 12 player photo buttons for the 1909 World Champion team (the Muchinsky examples were in our Feb. 2021 auction). This stickpin is even rarer than any of those buttons. The Pittsburgh Pirates stormed through their National League schedule, winning the title with one of the top records of all-time, 110-42 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Fred Clarke. The offense was led by the great Honus Wagner, arguably the best shortstop in Major League Baseball history. Fellow HOF'er Vic Willis, led the Pirates mound corps with a 22 win season in '09. The Pirates would go on to defeat the American League champion, Detroit Tigers w/Ty Cobb in seven games to take one of the most exciting World Series championships ever played. This fragile rarity remains NM. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
