Item Description
First example Hake's has offered. 2.25". No maker. Superb design with real photo portrait of Hornsby in Cardinals uniform (same image used on the previous 3 lots)  flanked by "NL" and "World Championship" pennants. "We've Got'Em" slogan at top and cardinal on bat logo at bottom. The example shown in the Muchinsky book has a small thin red ribbon, but this one is sans that. The 1926 St. Louis Cardinals won the NL pennant with a record of 89-65 under National Baseball Hall of Fame player/manager Rogers Hornsby, one of the best hitters in baseball history. Joining Hornsby as fellow future Hall of Fame selectees were teammates: Grover Cleveland Alexander (SP), Jim Bottomley (1B), Chick Hafey (OF), Jesse Haines (SP) and Billy Southworth (OF). The '26 Cardinals would go on to defeat the mighty New York Yankees in the World Series. Area of lt. age staining lower right. A number of air spots under the cello only seen in reflected light. Retains high gloss and design remains sharp. Still Fine and an exceptional rarity for the Cardinals collector. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
