Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 5.5". Back of ribbon marked "W.M.T. Wager NY." Ornate brass shell hanger w/celluloid insert has attached ribbon holding brass medallion w/cello disc inset. This has latter day real photo of Wagner in Pittsburgh Pirates uniform. Ribbon is for May 4th celebration in "Brooklyn." Wagner began his Major League baseball career in 1897 with the Louisville Colonels ball club before moving to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1900, where he would spend the next 18 seasons of his career, retiring after the 1917 season. He would return to coach the team 1933-1951. Widely regarded as the best shortstop of all-time and one of the original five National Baseball Hall of Fame selections in 1936. Some aging to the ribbon and trace of wear to the gold lettering but all is fully legible. Rest of piece has trace of age. VF. A rare single day issue artifact.
