Item Description
Near complete set of 31 of 32 artboards, each approx. 9.25x13-3/8" w/pen and ink original art by Spanish comic artist Jaime Brocal Remohí (1936-2002) for Spanish comic book adaptation of Jules Verne'sFrom The Earth To The Moon, published in Spain for Spanish version of Classics Illustrated by Editoreal Valenciana in 1958. Just like the US Classics Illustrated, stories were reprinted several times. This art is for the first printing in 1958. Jaime Brocal Remohí also created art for an adaptation of Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (see previous lot) before going on to become one of the first Spanish artists to work on Warren Publishing's Eerie magazine. Art is all original for this publication and tells the classic Verne tale of voyage to the moon. One page shows body of dead dog being dumped into space. Story ends w/splash down return of capsule to Earth. Back of each page has been watercolored for use as a color guide, giving colored appearance when held to light. Each artboard has inkstamped date at top w/page numbers in margin corners. Bottom of page 2 has been signed by the artist. A few caption/dialogue strip replacements paste-overs. Bottom left of page 4 has moderate stain spotting and is VG while rest show scattered aging and corner tip/margin wear but remain clean and Fine to VF for the most part. Comes w/later printing (1984) reading copy of the comic this art was published in.
