A fascinating flyer from the first mayoral election in the aftermath of the Haymarket bombing illustrating the ripple effect of the traumatic incident and the tide against Anarchism & labor. Below red flag at top left is quote from Socialist Labor Party candidate Robert Nelson responding to a question about allowing "Socialists To Carry The Red Flag In Chicago?" w/bold text below "Conclusion. The Anarchists Have The Same Right To Carry The Red Flag That The Sunday Schools Have To Carry Their Banners." Below American flag at right is Republican candidate John Roche's response and bold text below "Conclusion. If I Am Elected Mayor There Will Be No Red Flags Carried In The Streets Of Chicago." Vertical & horizontal fold, tear just affecting flag at top left and a diagonal tear affecting text at lower left. VG. Only minor toning & retains bold color. The only example we have encountered in our 54 years.
