Item Description
1" w/St. Louis Button Co. back paper. Rankin was a suffrage activist, supporter of civil rights and pacifist. Trivial wear in reflected light. NM. Montana voters first sent Rankin to Congress in 1916 making her the first woman elected to the body. Her pacifist views led her to voting against US entry into WWI costing her a chance at re-election. She ran again in 1940 and found herself in the same situation, voting against entry into WWII, again ending her chance at re-election. In 1968 the still active Rankin led 5,000 women on a march against the Vietnam War in Washington DC.
