Item Description
2-1/8" dia. w/Bastian Bros. Co. back paper. Button design is dominated by image of bare-breasted mermaid emerging from water, her hair discreetly covering her. Sailboats can be seen in bkg., set against scalloped shell design. "Long Beach Festival Of The Sea" text is made of either eels or sea snakes, each w/tiny facial details. Additional text includes "Long Beach, Calif. - Sept. 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. 1908." In addition to the superb color design, the design is perfectly centered and the button shows almost no surface wear under reflected light. Light age on the Bastian paper with barely seen trace of age tone on the cello next to the collet but not extending to front surface. Glossy and Exc. Classic button and among the most stunning buttons ever produced. We've offered this scarce button about nine times in our 54 years with our last in Auction 230 in same overall condition realizing just about $1,400. Alan Weinberg Collection.
