Item Description
Cap Anson (1852-1922) was an MLB first baseman, regarded as one of the greatest players of his era and one of the first superstars of the game. He spent most of his career w/the Chicago Cubs franchise (then known as the White Stockings and later the Colts), serving as the club's manager, first baseman and, later in his tenure, minority owner. He led the team to six NL pennants in the 1880s. He was elected to the National Baseball HOF in 1939. Offered here is a single-sided 9-1/8x11" thin cardboard poster featuring a photo image of Anson w/"Score One For The Captain" (his "Cap" nickname being short for "Captain") slogan at top. Poster was for 1905 Chicago, IL city clerk election, which Anson won. Shortly after his election, Anson became embroiled in numerous controversies that he was, by personality and temperament, unable to overcome. He lost a bid for renomination, and his career in public office ended ignominiously. Poster has some scattered age spotting and faint creases to lower half. Fine/VF.
