Item Description
1x1.5". Similar to DeWitt/Sullivan AL-1860-132d, but here utilizing Lincoln portrait #2 w/name above. Retains vertical pin on reverse. Ferro has moderate surface wear most notably a vertical scratch affecting portrait seen only in reflected light. Devoid of missing emulsion or bubbling under magnification. VF. Mathew Brady photographed Lincoln Feb 27, 1860, the day he addressed The Young Men's Central Republican Union at Cooper Union Institute in New York City. The future President was still relatively unknown and would not receive the Republican nomination for nearly three months. Lincoln's speech that day, arguing against the spread of slavery to Western territories, catapulted him into the national spotlight and the dissemination of this Cooper Union portrait played a significant role in his political rise.
