Item Description
8x12.75" letter w/original 3.5x8.5" envelope. Dated April 29, 1857 written in an unknown hand the letter offers congratulations "...That Her Majisty The Queen Had ...Safely Given BirthTo A Prince On Whom The Name Of Gennaro Maria Immacolata Luigi Had Been Bestowed In Baptism." Concluding line reads "... I Recommend Your Majesty And Your Majesty's Family To The Protection Of The Almighty." Signed boldly at conclusion "James Buchanan" at lower right and by Sec. of State "Lewis Cass" at lower left, in black dip pen ink. Two vertical and one horizontal mailing folds. Scattered light age toning and minor edge wear. VF. Comes w/Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
