Item Description
From the same set as lot #782. Card front reads "Santa Clara B.B.C. Marcelle-Infielder." Nicknamed "Ghost", Marcelle was considered by many to be the greatest fielding third basemen in Negro League history and was rated ahead of Hall of Famers Judy Johnson and Ray Dandridge in the 1952 Pittsburgh Courier player-voted poll of the Negro Leagues' best players. Marcelle began his professional baseball career with the Brooklyn Royal Giants in 1919. He participated in two Negro League World Series, both for the Bacharach Giants.
