Item Description
From the same set as lot #782. Card front reads "Santa Clara B.B.C. Holland-Pitcher." To our knowledge, this is the only standard issue baseball card made during Holland's playing years. Between 1920 and 1941 Holland played for a number of different Negro League teams including the Detroit Stars, Chicago American Giants, New York Lincoln Giants, Brooklyn Royal Giants, Hilldale Daisies, New York Black Yankees and Philadelphia Stars. He is credited with a 29-2 record in 1930 with the New York Lincoln Giants, and on July 10 of that year he became the first African American pitcher ever to pitch in Yankee Stadium.
