Item Description
Presented here is one of the truly iconic baseball rookie cards of all-time. Joining Rose on this immediately recognizable card are fellow rookies: Pedro Gonzalez (New York Yankees), Ken McMullen (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Al Weis (Chicago White Sox). Although "Charlie Hustle" continues to be on the outside looking in at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY due to his betting on Cincinnati Reds baseball games during his time as the team's manager during the 1980s, Rose continues to enjoy his perch at the top of the all-time hits leaders in MLB history at 4,256, having eclipsed the former record of 4,191 set by the legendary Ty Cobb. As a player, Rose was the only individual ever selected to the MLB All-Star Game at 5 different positions on the field, making the team at first base, second base, third base, left field and right field. Pete began his career w/a bang as a member of the Cincinnati Reds, copping the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1963. A decade later, in 1973, Rose would win his only National League MVP award after posting league leading numbers for batting average at .338 along w/a career best 230 base hits. After playing his final season with Cincinnati in 1978, Rose joined the Philadelphia Phillies in 1979 and one year later, was a vital cog in the team's World Championship season of 1980. After a partial season with the Montreal Expos in 1984, Pete closed out his playing career back with the Reds in 1986. A high grade example of this coveted Topps card.
