Item Description
Only example known to Hake's. 7/8". Metal back stamped "Geragthy Mfg. Co. Chicago." Front features crossed bats and a ball. Issued for his run in the 1898 Chicago, IL election. Hallstrom nicknamed "The Swedish Wonder" pitched only one game for the 1885 Providence Grays of the National League. The Grays were in need of a pitcher for that day's game versus the Chicago White Stockings, and used Hallstrom, a local Chicago amateur player. He is the first of four Major League Baseball players born in Sweden. Trace of oxidation on back. Front has a tiny cello dig at 3 o'clock and a tiny 1/8" hairline paper split under the cello at 5 o'clock. Moderate surface scratches seen in reflected light. Appearance remains clean and button is glossy. Fine. Something very different for the pre-1900 baseball collector. Paul Muchinsky Collection.
