Item Description
Original 3.5x5.75" glossy photo depicting 12 team members in full uniform along with a gentleman dressed in formal attire and batboy. The 1934 Concordia Eagles team played winter league ball in Venezuela as well as touring internationally, including Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic where this photograph was taken, in Feb. Later in the season, this Concordia ball club would add all-time Negro League greats, Josh Gibson along with Cuban outfield star, Alejandro Oms. Caption at bottom of photo reads "Concordia B.B.C.". Back of photo includes handwritten note from one of the ballplayers pictured, Francisco Quevedo including a date of 2/34. Highlighting this wonderful image is future National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher/outfielder, Martin Dihigo. Widely recognized as the best two-way player in Negro League baseball history, Martin played for many years in Cuba during the winters while becoming a stalwart of Negro League baseball in the U.S. during the summer, starring initially for the New York Cuban Stars before brief stays with the Homestead Grays and Hilldale Daisies ball clubs during the late 1920s and early 1930s before returning to the Cuban Stars to finish out his U.S. career. Dihigo would spend another decade playing internationally, including time in Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic and Cuba throughout the 1940s. Lt. handling wear and aging but remains clean and glossy w/nice contrast and clarity. VF. Comes w/PSA LOA.
