Item Description
Original 2.75x2.75" glossy photo of all-time Negro League pitching great Willie "Bill"  Foster with two young ladies beside him, likely family members. Willie was the much younger brother of Negro National League founder, Rube Foster, himself a National Baseball Hall of Fame member. Willie was a star pitcher in the Negro Leagues for many years, spending time during the 1920s-1930s w/the Chicago American Giants, Birmingham Black Barons, Homestead Grays, Kansas City Monarchs and Pittsburgh Crawfords. Foster's Chicago club won Negro League pennants in 1926, 1927 and 1933 w/Willie recording win/loss records of 14-1, 14-10 and 11-7. Foster also recorded a 26 game winning streak during this period against all levels of competition. Foster was selected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. Photo image is strong, small handwritten note on front is illegible. Back of photo exhibits remnants from scrapbook removal. Fine.
