Item Description
9x12" on thin paper. The week long event organized by the "Afro-American Institute" to celebrate Garvey, who is considered the father of black nationalism and was the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association. Text at lower right notes "Printing: Donated By Success Book Co." the Julian Richardson owned SF bookstore was an active meeting place for Black Panther Party members, artists and activists. A skilled lithographer, Richardson reproduced pamphlets and other texts of African American culture w/limited West coast distribution. Moderate handling wear and corner rounding. Otherwise scattered light brown moisture marks, none affecting Garvey portrait. Fine. Only the second we've seen in our 54 years.
