Item Description
11.5x18" on sturdy cardboard. 1930s. Professional restoration to repair a center horizontal and corner separations. Displaying VF. This rare survivor is only the second we've seen in commerce. Walker is often cited as the first African- American millionaire and the Guinness Book of World Records cites her as the first female self-made millionaire in America. She attained her fortune manufacturing and selling her homemade haircare and beauty products tailored for African American women building an army of sales agents known as "Beauty Culturalists." She counted W. E. B. Du Bois, Mary McLeod Bethune and Booker T. Washington as friends and in 1919 contributed $5,000 to the NAACP anti-lynching fund, then a record contribution for the organization.
