Item Description
3.75x5.5" photocopy (xerographic print) on thin stock produced before the show for promotion. Signed in pencil on reverse by artist Daniel Riddle, then an employee at Satyricon and a member of Hitting Birth. Trippy border design w/intertwined snakes and clown heads framing the bold central text including the promise of "Free Champaigne." Promoting a "New Years Eve" (Dec. 31, 1990) concert in Portland, OR at Satyricon, the noted rock club that featured a who's who of grunge and alternative rock bands of the era. The show also featured Hitting Birth, Caustic Soda, Thrill Hammer and Roger Nusic. Only trivial handling wear. NM, of file copy quality. Only the third example we've encountered of this historic handbill from the iconic 400 person capacity rock club.

By the time Nirvana took the stage it was littered w/broken glass a result of the bottles of free champagne distributed to patrons. Satyricon had a capacity of only 400, despite this (or perhaps because of it) the club became an important hangout and proving ground for emerging Northwest local bands attaining legendary status sometimes thought of as a West Coast CBGB's. Courtney Love was a regular while living in the city and met future husband Kurt Cobain here, though stories have differed over the years it's most likely the iconic pair met in Jan. 12, 1990 at Nirvana's headlining gig. The band ushered in 1991 before heading into the studio to record their sophomore album Nevermind and by Dec. 31, 1991 that album was quickly climbing the charts in the midst of impacting a generation of music fans around the world.
