Item Description
14x18" offset print on thin white stock produced before the show for promotion. The lower third of this poster is designed by Mike King who utilized the cover art from Sonic Youth's recently released album Goo that was produced by artist Raymond Pettibon. Illustrated in King, Herring & Gore authored book Maximum Plunder on p. 183. Advertising concerts Aug. 23 & 24 at Melody Ballroom in Portland, OR and Moore Theater in Seattle, WA. Text at top left "Plus Two Hot Bands- Nirvana & STP (the all-female group featuring Julia Cafritz from Pussy Galore). Faint horizontal curl just above center from being rolled w/others. This trivial bend is a common trait of surviving examples of this poster sourced from a group (quantity unknown to us) of undistributed posters discovered years ago. Otherwise only trivial handling. Exc. A terrific, oversized poster featuring the iconic Pettibon graphics and designed by the prolific King. Goo was Sonic Youth's major label debut on David Geffen's DGC label released less than two months before this show. The New Yorkers were friends and major influences on the entire grunge scene and were instrumental is DGC signing Nirvana. Two months to the day after the Seattle show Nirvana released Nevermind on DGC.
