Item Description
2.5x3.75" tintype photo of an engraving by deaf American artist Marcus H Kerr. Image depicts Greeley on hands and knees drinking milk from the teet of a "Democrat" cow. His iconic glasses, hat and white whiskers are prominently depicted w/his name appearing on tail behind him. He is being watched by a hissing black cat w/the letters "BLIC" visible on its side. Possibly "Public" or "Republic". Watching overhead is a winged figure identified as "Grant" w/a cigar in his mouth, a sword around his neck and a flag on a pole trailing behind him. Artist name appears twice in reverse as is all text due to the negative image process of producing a tintype. No example of the original print is known to us. Comes in brass frame under glass. An amusing image of a colorful political character. VF.
