Item Description
13.5x17.75" on coarse stock w/"Published By John Childs 90 Nassau St. New York & Penns. Avenues Washington DC" along bottom edge. Signs pointing in opposite directions labeled "To Washington City D.C." and "To Kinderhook" w/Harrison, in garish military uniform on horseback, asking for direction from Van Buren who carries "Sub Treasury" on his back responding "Yes Sir I Think I Can For I Have Just Come From There Myself, But If I Were You I Would Not Go There For They Drink Nothing But Hard Cider In The City Now: That's The Reason I Left." Well flattened vertical fold just right of center, two small margin losses at lower left, vertical tear at top left and in lower margin affecting the "I" in "Pilgrim's." Scattered foxing and slightly uneven margin trims that do not affect display and would easily frame out. Fine. Cartoon prints from the 1840 election are rare and this is the first example of this particular design we've seen in commerce.
