Popy was the only company in Japan to release Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back figures, issuing 15 different figures in this manner. Offered here is an extremely rare salesman's sample for the Japanese market, measuring 2x15.25x4.25" tall overall and consisting of all 15 3.75" scale action figures in their individually illustrated cardboard boxes. Each box has image of figure within and each bears its own number. These include - S1 Boba Fett, S2 Darth Vader, S3 R2-D2, S4 C-3PO, S5 Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues), S6 Han Solo (Hoth Outfit), S7 Chewbacca, S8 Luke Skywalker, S9 Han Solo, S10 Imperial Stormtrooper (Hoth Battle Gear/Snowtrooper), S11 Death Star Droid, S12 Rebel Soldier (Hoth Battle Gear), S13 Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot), S14 R5-D4 and S15 Stormtrooper. Only a handful of Popy sets of this type have been found to date and while they have been wrapped together as a group, they all have the shared characteristic of having the bottom inner flaps (POPs) removed from each box. This is likely due to the manufacturer not wanting the benefits of buying all 15 characters individually to be passed on to the set. Rumors indicate that these sets might have been salesman's sample sets, but they also may have been discounted complete sets sold at retail or promotional sets given out in Japan. Set is tape sealed and all boxed figures appear to be unused in their individually taped boxes. S15 Stormtrooper box has crease at top right edge w/heavy crease along right side panel and back edge. This box is VG overall. S14 R5-D4 and S13 Luke Skywalker (X-Wing Pilot) boxes have creasing along right side panels and are Fine overall. Other boxes display Exc. Figures are unused as packaged. This lot presents a rare opportunity to obtain a complete set of the Popy Empire Strikes Back figures. Comes w/custom acrylic case for display purposes. Comes with notarized Collectible Investment Brokerage (CIB) LOA.
