Item Description
Original 12x14x37.5" illustrated cardboard box contains 14" wide by 37.5" long child's plastic riding toy designed like the iconic Batmobile. Marx, ©1966 NPP, Inc. Box graphics feature different illustration on each panel, showing Batman and Robin w/Batmobile toy, child w/toy and images of toy along w/text noting special features including "Modern Wheel Design, Real Tail Fins, Steering Wheel, Exciting 'Play' Bat Phone." Large batsymbol graphics on each panel. Box has original store price sticker on front main panel and shows scattered wear w/dust soiling and creases w/staples holes on one end's flaps as opened. Opposite end has original Marx shipping label. Fine. Batmobile was produced in different color variations, main body of Batmobile in black w/desirable red fins and yellow cockpit windshield variety. Batmobile has batsymbol-shaped steering wheel which has squeaking horn (some discoloration at top). Car has spring tension motor that operated by pushing Batmobile back, then releasing push-down brake handle and lifting feet to be propelled forward. This function no longer works. Missing set of four miniature tools as is usual but thin vinyl cowl/cape is present (this has all over creases as stored and some scattered staining). Three gold-colored rubber exhaust pipes on trunk are complete but aged and show wear. Trunk has 2.25x4" gold foil "Batman" sticker, but this shows some wear w/three slivers of surface foil off. Complete w/large 3.5x5.5" "Batmobile" decal stickers on front fenders (below recessed area for child's feet), headlights, taillights, air intake and large batsymbol grille decal. All show aging/wear and are VG to Fine overall. Cockpit windshield is missing separate removable plastic "Bat Phone." Intricately and realistically-detailed dash in chrome luster (which shows obvious wear), red plastic shows speedometer which can be adjusted, several knobs that can be turned and has directional gear levers. Batmobile has obvious wear to hard plastic wheel treads from use and aging to hubcaps. VG, but still displays nicely. Great large toy and certainly the nicest Batmobile collectible produced during the 1966 Batmania craze. Due to size and/or weight of this item, shipping charges may be substantial.
