Item Description
The Exhibit Supply Co. issued a set of 64 cards in 1927, each measuring 3-3/8x5-3/8". These cards were sold primarily at penny arcades via vending machines. The player's name and team appear in capital letters in one lower corner, while "Ex. Sup. Co., Chgo." And "Made in U.S.A." appear in the other. By far the two key cards issued for this highly sought after series are Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth (see previous lot). This card shares the identical image with Gehrig's 1925 Exhibit Rookie card. In 1927 Gehrig was in the process of establishing himself as the preeminent first baseman in MLB at that time, very early in his career, whereby he would ultimately be remembered as the "Iron Horse" of baseball, playing in 2,130 consecutive games. Gehrig was inducted into the National Baseball Hall Of Fame in 1939. The card was given the "MK" designation as there was once a small penciled number on the center of the blank card back, now leaving just a faint impression only seen upon magnification. Card is clean w/great eye appeal.
