Item Description
7/8" w/improperly tucked cello around circumference on reverse and a shallow indentation at left. This tucking issue created a tiny split and small loss on rim at 9 o'clock. Despite these issues the button displays nicely w/moderate surface wear in reflected light. VG. Haywood, a mine worker at age nine, joined the Western Federation of Miners working to increase wages and end child labor. Along w/Debs, De Leon, Mother Jones and others in 1905, he helped found the I.W.W. That same year he was charged (w/two others) in taking part in the murder of Frank Steunenberg, former Governor of Idaho. This button was likely produced around this time in support of Haywood.
