Item Description
1.5x3x4" w/ebony wood interior. Produced by noted silver firm "Miyamoto Shoko" w/additional text "Sterling Silver" and hallmark on base edge. Engraved on lid "To Rose Mary Woods With Appreciation From Dick Nixon 1964." Overall scattered scratches amounting to moderate wear from light use. Exc. A unique personal gift from Nixon to his loyal longtime personal secretary. Woods worked for Nixon from his congressional days starting in 1951 and staying w/him all the way through his White House years. During Grand Jury testimony in 1974 she famously claimed culpability for the 18.5-minute gap in a White House audio tape from June 20, 1972 demonstrating how this may have occurred in a famed photo known as "Rose Mary Stretch." Many skeptics felt she was covering for Nixon. Whatever the reality, her place in American history was secured. This unique box comes w/Hake's COA.
