Item Description
Large and impressive 30.25" tall (33.75" tall to top of separate hat) jointed composition doll used by stores to advertise smaller scale (the largest being 13.25" tall) jointed composition Pinocchio dolls by Knickerbocker, ©1939. These display dolls would have seen very limited production and were only ordered by the top stores of the day.
Display doll is jointed as the smaller examples were, at shoulders, hips and neck and display doll also sports fabric outfit. This consists of cloth outfit w/plastic buttons and metal snaps on back of outfit, cloth/felt shoes w/metal "snap" buttons and separate felt hat w/felt decorated band and remnant of original feather. Hat has attached chin string, which is longer than necessary. Back of head has raised "Pinocchio" name and copyright information still partially visible. Doll has had professional restoration to head and body, fixing some of the typical crazing seen on these Knickerbocker dolls (some visible on elbow of one arm) as well as some paint wear. Front of one shoe has had repair to seam split. Cloth and felt show aging/dust soiling but doll still displays Fine overall and will easily become the focal point of any Pinocchio collection.
