Item Description
1.25" w/W&H back paper. From a set of 12 known. Design includes portrait photo at center (but players are not identified), below this is pennant w/skull and crossbones. All are from the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates team, which finished with one of the best records in National League history at 110-42, defeating the Detroit Tigers in the 1909 World Series, 4 games to 3. The Hermes Ice Cream Factory was located in downtown Pittsburgh, PA on the corners of Diamond & Shingiss Streets and was the leading producer of ice cream in the Western Pennsylvania area during the early part of the 20th century. Bobby Byrne was a third baseman for the 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates ball club, finishing the season with a .256 batting average to go along with 31 runs scored and 8 stolen bases. Byrne would go on to lead the National League in base hits and doubles the following season, 1910. Trace of staining along right rim edge. Lt. scattered surface wear upon close inspection. Still glossy, Fine.
