Item Description
Large and heavy 2.5" medal probably of white metal but with highly-lustrous silver finish. Obverse has very high relief bust of Scott. On the raised edge of the lower shoulder are the designer's names "C.G. Quilfeldt & J. Lebreton." The center reverse has large federal shield draped with ribbon reading "E Pluribus Unum." Surrounding this are circles of stars and text reading "All Hail To The Stars And Stripes! One Flag, One Country, One Constitution, One Destiny. April 19. 1775. Liberty. April 19, 1861. Union." Also, in tiny text along the rim edge is "Entered According To Act Of Congress In The Year 1861 By D.E. Hall In The Clerks Office Of The District Court For The Southern District Of New York." On the reverse at lower right there is a small sliver of metal 3/16" long off the raised rim edge. It appears this may have been done to test the medal for its metallic content. Rest of the piece is extremely Fine. Rare and first we've offered.
