Item Description
15/16" brass with rim hole and suspension ring as issued. Listed as DeWitt/Sullivan 1844-36. Front has his bust, date of birth, name and "The Ashland Farmer 1844." Reverse shows scales with trays labeled "Democrat" and "Whig" showing the position favoring the "Whig" and with the anti-Democratic rim slogan "Weighed In The Balance & Found Wanting." As DeWitt notes, this reverse was used on a Harrison token with a date of 1840 and was not changed when used on this piece in 1844. Gorgeous N. Mint luster. Rarely seen in this condition.
