Item Description
.75" w/W&H back paper. c. 1920 w/only minor surface wear in reflected light. Exc.  This example has blue lettering. A red variety sold in our last auction for $1,187.

Here is a reference to 90,000 members in 1919 on the NAACP website: "By 1920, by which time Johnson became the first black executive secretary, membership had grown to 90,000, of which nearly half was in the South." And here is a reference to the extremely rapid growth in this article (one of many similar references to 90,000 in 1919/1920) from the Cheltenham NAACP History page: "NAACP membership grew rapidly, from around 9,000 in 1917 to around 90,000 in 1919, with more than 300 local branches."
