Item Description
The first Joe Louis golf tournament open to the best African American golf players of the day (professional and amateur) took place in 1941 and then got suspended by World War II, resuming in 1945. These are both "Contestant" buttons issued in very small numbers. For the third event in 1946, the button is 2-3/8" and "Parisian" the Chicago maker can be seen on the curl. The sixth event is the 1949 button at 2.75", no maker. This has raised cello bump center right caused in assembly by the reverse bar pin. Otherwise, both are glossy and Exc. Rare. Paul Muchinsky Collection book photo examples #154 & #156.
