Item Description
1.25" button w/W&H back paper plus tabbed on brass rope frame which has vertical pin and catch. This second carnival opened 1/14/1902 titled "Sunshine In January". At the time El Paso's population had increased 75% in five years and stood at 30,000 with 10,000 visitors expected. The newspaper ran an ad "T. Moran Wants 40 Good, Honest Boys To Sell Badges For The Carnival. They Must Be 12-20 Years In Age". The Midway included a replica New England country store and its own Streets of Cairo attraction w/belly dancing which had proven so popular in 1893, 1898, and 1901 at larger expositions. One light .5" scratch seen only in reflected light. NM. Rare. This is photo example used (p. 85) for Button Power: 125 Years of Saying It With Buttons by Christen Carter and Ted Hake. Comes w/Hake's COA.
