Item Description
2-5/8x3.75". The 1954 Red Heart set was produced by the Morrell Company and issued regionally with Red Heart brand dog food. The set consists of 33 cards, each with one of three different, evenly distributed, brightly colored backgrounds: 11 red, 11 blue and 11 green. A bust portrait of a broadly smiling player adorned the front of each card, placed against the solid backdrop. The clean design features the ballplayer's name within an elongated diamond near the bottom of each item, just above the team name printed along the bottom white border. The reverse carries a biography, statistics, and the Red Heart logo. The set features most of the stars and future Hall of Famers of the time, of which Stan Musial is the most difficult piece in the set, as his appearance was not only a short print, but also his only 1954 issue as he was absent from both the Bowman and Topps sets that year.
Roy David McMillan, was a shortstop, coach and manager in Major League Baseball. From 1951 through 1966, McMillan played for the Cincinnati Reds, Milwaukee Braves, and New York Mets. Following his retirement as a player, McMillan managed the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets. Some of his career highlights as a player was being a two time All-Star and a three time Gold Glove winner. He was elected to the Cincinnati Reds Hall Of Fame in 1971.
