Item Description
3.75x9.5" on card stock. Issued by the Taft League of Massachusetts. Top of the card features a portrait of Taft w/text on either side of him. On the left, text reads "He Does Not Talk About A Square Deal; He Gives It To Us Without Talking," while on the right, "The Man Who Tells The Truth To The People Is The Real Friend Of The People". Below this is the word "Progressive" vertically, w/each letter used to highlight a reason to support Taft, including "P" for Peace Treaties, "R" for Rigid Enforcement Of All Laws", and so on. This message is trying to argue that Taft, not Roosevelt, is the true standard bearer of the Progressive movement. Card ends by asking Massachusetts voters to vote on April 30, 1912. Only light surface wear and handling. Exc. An impressive 1912 campaign item from the contentious Republican primaries. Wayne Otchis Collection.
