Item Description
Unless you are familiar with the Hake/Levin book Buttons In Sets 1896-1972 (page 29) this set needs some background. This litho button set comes in two sizes: smaller 13/16" in bw/red or larger 7/8" in both bw/red or like this set being offered bw/red with small touch of bright yellow. In addition, the 7/8" size comes with or without the the issuer address in Chicago or Los Angeles on the curl: Western Theatre Premium Co. All sets include the same characters but with small design variations. The set being offered is 7/8", no maker's name. The only two exceptions in this set being #39 "Ella" and #49 "Blackie" which have no yellow accent. The consignor held this set 20 years awaiting a high grade Betty Boop, which they recently acquired. Based on our research, we conclude it is unlikely 39 and 49 exist with yellow accent. The condition of this set is amazing with 48 largely Mint and just two Exc. Includes characters that debuted in the early 1900s up to the early 1930s (but no Disney). The biggest names are: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (credited to Walter Lantz/Bill Nolan) Looney Tune's Bosko, Krazy and Kitty Kat credited to Charles Mintz, Betty Boop plus Bimbo and Ko-Ko,  Barney Google, Tillie, Jiggs, Popeye, Andy Gump, Old Doc Yak,  Skeezix and 36 others. There are very few full sets of any variety and with the yellow accent this is certainly the most graphic.
