Item Description
1.5", no maker with concave back and fixed bar pin. From 1914 through 1922 Brown attracted huge crowds to fairgrounds and filled many vaudeville theatres all by demonstrating his walking speed and endurance. In 1916, at the Salt Lake City state fairgrounds, he walked a half mile to beat a Hudson Super Six auto traveling 1.5 miles. His Keith's, Pantages, and other vaudeville house appearances were on a stationary track or a treadmill against opponents such as Billy Weston, nephew of the great walker Edward Payson Weston. Large dials showed the audience the relative position of each walker. In baseball stadiums, he would walk twice around the bases besting the time of four ball players each sprinting once around the bases. Glossy and Exc. Only example known to us. See next related item.
