Item Description
5x8" on thick paper. Dated June 20, 1894. Letter written by Thomsas Nast w/sketch at the bottom. Nast was perhaps the most famous and prolific political cartoonist of the mid-to-late 19th century. He worked w/Harper's Weekly from the early 1860s to 1886. He was known for his critical depictions of Irish Americans, as well as his searing critiques of Tammany Hall and political bossism. He was also a staunch abolitionist and an opponent of segregation and the Ku Klux Klan. Traces of soil, mostly relegated to the top, as well as an ink stain along the right edge just under the signature. Otherwise moderate surface wear and handling. VG. Also included is a C.1885 "Menu" for a "Th. Nast's Artistic Entertainment" event at "Central Music Hall March 27th" featuring Nast art on cover. Two horizontal and one vertical folds. Edge wear and moderate handling. VG.
